The king doth keep his revels here to-night

Well met! Here are a few more photos from the Washington Midsummer Renaissance festival:

The Queen of Scotland, posing for her subjects
A hearty lunch. It looked far more appetizing than my own.
A weaponry demonstration.
And how could the day be complete without a joust to win the Queen's favor?

Haven’t had enough of the merriment? Click here for my flickr stream.

  1. Fun! The jousting is always exciting. ^_^

My lil’ sister got two free tickets to the Renaissance Festival once and she hasn’t used them yet. I’ll have to be like, *nudge nudge* “I’ll buy your food…”

  2. You know, I’ve never been to a Renn fest. Someday… maybe… It does look like lots of fun.

Now I have been to a “Medieval Times” dinner theater – with a joust show and a “medieval”-style dinner. It’s like an hour-and-a-half or so Renn fest, only nobody except the staff is in costume, and the swag you can buy is all mass-produced.

  3. When I was a high school English teacher, we turned our whole school into a castle. It was cool, since our building actually did have a moat, and a bridge that looked like a drawbridge. But alas, the history teacher that spearheaded that whole thing left after 5 yrs and no one else wanted to take on such a monumental task.

    It was so much fun.

  4. I so love North American renaissance faires! 😀 Went to Tuxedo/NY in 2002… the live joust was amazing.
But I also love the medieval dinners and other attractions in REAL castles in Europe… 🙂
    Great pics!
