It’s so easy to get caught up in being busy, that we can forget the simple things. Inspired by Lua, here’s a list of the the small things that make me happy.
- Sunshine. That’s all it takes to make me smile. If the sun is out I always feel like it’s going to be a good day, but even if it turns out to be rotten, it doesn’t seem so bad if it’s sunny.
- The smell of libraries: paper, book binding, coffee… writer’s heaven.
- Blog comments.ย Thank you!! xoxo ๐
- The feel of pens on paper. Some pens glide effortlessly, other pens create a satisfying scratch against the page.
- Being so engrossed in a good book that I lose track of time.
- Getting an unexpected call/e-mail from a friend.
- Days where I have no plans to do anything – so rare!
- Hugs! Laugh inducing, bear-huggy, exuberant, joyful hugs.
- Finding the perfect name for a character in a story.
- Peanut butter cookies.
What makes you happy?
Pretty much all mammals shorter than knee height – lambs, wee dogs, kittens, pigs!
Blowing out zombies’ brains (in computer games, possibly in reality too but I wouldn’t know)
That ‘moment’ when a story suddenly comes together in a way you hadn’t expected.
Oh yes, how could I forget the wee animals, and those story moments are pure gold. I wish they’d happen more often.
Yes, the wee animals! That’s a good one too.
Also, “progress,” whatever that might mean on that day, in my writing.
Chocolate (stereotypical, but true).
Dance (watching or doing).
Ahh progress! Yup. I can’t sleep easy unless I’ve done something to progress my wip. You know (blasphemy I know) I don’t really like chocolate…
YOU DON”T LIKEโโโ?!?!?!?!
I know… I think my taste buds must be defective. ๐
Great list Tessa, loved it! ๐
Especially your # 8! Days like that are rare and wonderful!
And those cookies look sooooo delicious, no wonder theyโre on the list ๐
Hehe Thanks Lua!
That’s a wonderful list. I, too, am a lover of small mammals.
I also enjoy the company of human-sized mammals.
How about the company of animal-sized humans? lol, we all know at least one (horse-sized or chihuahua-sized)!!!
All animals really! (excluding insects and amphibians). But humans, well it depends on which ones… ๐
Also, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, and other things of a chocolatey nature.
My fave’s mint chocolate chip ice cream wise ๐
Ah yes, one of my top-five favorite ice-cream flavors.
In general, I like the ones that don’t have nuts.
3, 6, 8, 9, and 10!!!! (#6 seems strangely familiarโฆ)
#7 is kind of nice too, after a lot of things have been happening, but only every now and then, otherwise it’s boooooringโฆ
11. Spontaneous plans. ๐ ๐ ๐
Ahh but #7 gives you the opportunity to make spontaneous plans! Jump in that car and drive… who knows where.
Yes #6 Shh….I think I stole that one from some guy’s website. ๐
โAnd broadway dancing! Like “Who will buy” from Oliver!
…. when no one’s watching. At least, that’s when I sneak it in. LOL.
I don’t dance to broadway, but I’ll belt one out every now and then. Usually when Dear Wife’s not in earshot. She’s none-too-fond of my singing.
